In fact, the majority of preschool-aged children are able to remember details of events that happened as far back as 3 or 4 years in the past. By the preschool years, most children are able to verbally recall experiences and events that occurred to them in the past. However, studies have found, even in infancy, that some children are more likely to remember experiences than others.Īs children grow and mature, so too does their capacity for memory. These are generally types of sensory and motor memories-such as associating a parent’s face with the comfort of being held-or moments when a child may remember being able to do something for the first time, such as crawling or lifting their head up.
